I'm a WHAT?!

Shopping for bras online, and I thought, you know, I haven't actually measured my boobs in years.  I have long felt that B-cups are actually a little big on me (particularly when they're the molded kind), and while I used to buy 36Bs since they're easier to find, even the bands on a 38 always seem to cut in too tightly.

So, the formula, for the uninitiated, is ribcage (underbust) measurement + 5" = band size, and fullest bust measurement (in an unlined bra) - band size = cup (A = 1", B = 2", etc.).   My ribcage is 35" + 5 = 40", and my bust = 39".  w.t.f.  So that makes me... a 40AA.  Does that even exist?

But it's odd... because I (clearly) have breasts. I've seen girls with AA chests and, well, I only look like that if I'm lying flat on my back.  But... I've felt a good handful (hah) of boobs in my time, and I think that mine are some of the squishiest I've felt... so there might be something going on there in a lack of density as well.

Anyway, just kinda weird so I'm throwing it out there... I'd never thought of myself as unusual in the breasts department, just sort of large-ribbed.  38Bs tend to work for me in unlined/unpadded bras, which is what I'm shopping for anyway, and I've never seen 38As before, although I'm sure there are all kinds of specialty shops.

Weird.

Yeah, I measured myself for

Yeah, I measured myself for the first time about a month ago, cause I'll be needing new bras in the near future. I don't know how they devise that measuring system but apparently I should be wearing (31+5=36, 37-36=1) a 36A... Yeah, I definitely got fitted at Sears a couple years ago for a 34C, and all 3 bras I bought in that size are still working just fine.

So yeah... I really don't know where they pull a 36A for me. That would fall down and cut in at the same time :P

My advice: bite the bullet and go to a store.

Yeah, there's gotta be some

Yeah, there's gotta be some other voodoo involved that they're not telling us. A B does always seem big on me though, so I think there's some truth to it... but it still doesn't seem to accurately reflect it.

Or we could just measure each other *nudge nudge wink wink*

if ever there was a posting that could be improved with photos, this is it. you're an excellent communicator steph...but for those of us who've never sized a bra...or who lack imagination, a few visual aids would help greatly. thanks...

goto one of those shops with the old ladies who know boobs back to front and inside out.... kind of like the school teacher type, she will tell you the right measurement, and spank you if you tell her she's wrong :)

It's like a conumdrum... lucky us chaps don't have to measure stuff like this.

Argg.... why do people only use the two point method..

Heya, sorry I haven't been around lately, but reading thru your blog, this is something I had to be trained on while working at sears.... yes, i did work in that department and no, i never was allowed to actually do it.

Anywho, the 2 point method doesn't work on all women do to women occassionally having pear body shapes instead of hour glass. This isn't a bad thing, but to get a more accurate measurement you should be doing the following.

1) Under bust : Hope the tape snug, but not tight and take the measurement under your bust. This number, plus 4 or 5, which ever makes it even is obviously your bust size. in your case 40 if done correctly.

2) Upper bust : This is the one that people miss because the old school of thought was that it would be the same. In a lot of cases it will not be and lead to issues like you are having. Measure your upper bust near where your cleavage ends at the top of your torso, but never above or digging into your armpits. Generally, an inch or two below armpit level depending on bust size.

3) Full bust : You had this one correct, but having chris help you make sure you have the tape even all the way around is a must.

cup size should = full bust - upper bust. I have a feeling you'll be in the around a 40a from how you described the 38b's fitting on you and from recent pics.

Hope this helps hon :huggles:

Yep, 40A

Actually it does. But I so have visions of you measuring boobs in Sears now :) I could deal with that job...

Yes Chris was measuring, and you know what, I do end up at exactly a 40A with a calculator (http://www.85b.org/bra_calc.php) using all three measurements. I think if I had to be picky about an exact fit, I'm really somewhere between an A and B... some Bs seem to fit perfectly, just not the firm cup kind.

Thanks for the advice and confirmation though :) I don't exactly want to have to buy specialty bras, so I might just get me a few of those band extenders and stick with 38A/Bs.

np hon :) And yeah, as

np hon :)

And yeah, as strange as it is, i'm fairly acurate when it comes to eyeing up measurements as long as i've met the person in real life before.

Personally, i'd say go for the A , but if it's easier to find, the B should still work out well.
