Exciting news. T-minus six days until I have a MacBook! Yeah, remember that MacBook I posted about Spaz selling months ago? Well, we decided on that last trip to Toronto that travelling with only one laptop just doesn't work for us. At least not if we're trying to get work done. VNC is nice but really I need a computer of my own rather than doing everything over a remote connection.

I've also really been wanting to pick up a Mac, just not as my primary machine. Aaaaand he had a couple of spare 15" LCDs kicking around, so we can retire the last of our CRTs used around the house. Tech between friends is a good thing :)

Any must-have Mac programs?

Mac programs

Hi Steph,

Welcome to the world of Macintosh.

Here are two great site for free and open source Mac software:

www.opensourcemac.org

If those aren't enough, try

www.freemacware.com

Freemacware has over 800 applications with a brief review of each.

Hope you enjoy your new Mac!

Jim

Weeeee!

I feel like I should buy you a present as if you just had a baby.

Steph is expecting... a MacBook! Awww, it has your hair color!

Must have software? Hmmm... Mac OS X! ;)

I actually like working with Photoshop on a Mac more than I do on my PCs.

For publishing it's either Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress. (I've worked with Quark for 12 years so I'm biased toward that.)

Oh, I know! That little program that makes light saber sounds when you smack the MacBook on the sides. l337ness abounds.

MacLink Plus Deluxe was a must for translating/handling PC documents on OS 9. I assume they must have made a version for 0S X.

Enjoy. MacBook's are sort of sexy.

My fave Dashboard Widget is Screenshot Plus.

Mac's are a pain to remember which key strokes it is to take a screen shot, this widget has proved invaluable to me.

I also have a couple of "game" widgets to play when I'm waiting for something huge to download.
