I don't see anything now,

I don't see anything now, but I think it's on its last legs :( First it would only move up and down, then not at all, now it's not working. I think it may be time for a replacement.

Yeah, it'd been giving me

Yeah, it'd been giving me hell for a while now so I think it's toast :P Particularly the PTZ part of it.

I've been looking at new cams today and I'm torn between getting a mediocre PTZ cam I can afford now ($150-200, image quality on par with the central cam), or waiting a while until I can get a good cam with zoom ($350-600). Decisions, decisions...

Theoretically, if the right

Theoretically, if the right software is written for them, any cams can be. At first, the USB ones (like what I had, the QuickCam Orbit) could not be, until someone wrote an interface to connect with the Logitech drivers over the web.

However, the network cameras are definitely always accessible to control over the web and while they're much more expensive for a good image quality, they have a lot more flexibility and features.

That's the one.  Try

That's the one.  Try AbelCam or webcamXP.  Might be others out there by now, but those are the ones I've used.

Hey that reminds me, I forgot I have the trackerpod... I could set up a webcam on that in the meantime for PTZ.

Yep :) Not a problem. I

Yep :)

Not a problem.

I think I'm going to hold out for what I really want rather than buying something else I just want to replace eventually. Optical zoom and a low lux rating will make such a huge difference.
