Trying my first Instead SoftCup this afternoon.  Comfortable and easy to use, as promised, although I read the instructions about ten times to make sure I was aiming it right.  It was definitely bigger and firmer than I expected, and I sincerely doubt that one would not feel and/or dislodge it during sex, but I like that you can wear it longer and I imagine it will be less drying.  However, as a usual user of O.B. tampons (minimal wrapper, no applicator), the environmental factor of switching to a piece of plastic in a plastic wrapper is kind of annoying.  We'll see!

On a slightly more technical note, while playing with my new Flickr Pro account and lamenting the need to re-tag/caption all my photos, I wondered if there was a better way... and there very well may be.  The IPTC standard.  It's kind of like EXIF data, that stays with the photo, except for things like keywords, copyright, and location.  And it seems that Flickr, Gallery 2, and ACDSee (my desktop photo organization app of choice) all play nicely with it.  So, this may involve an overhaul/re-tagging/re-uploading of all my photos, but at least it will be more future-proof than simply tagging at Flickr.

Anyone else experienced with this stuff?

Also, are there any bookkeepers or QuickBooks whizzes out there?  *bats eyelashes*  I get to do corporate taxes for the first time this year (just shoot me), and I feel like I'm totally getting off on the wrong foot trying to set up and understand QuickBooks.

reuseable menstrual cups

if you end up liking having a menstrual cup but want something more environmentally friendly, there's quite a few reuseable ones made out of either rubber or silicone. they're shaped a bit differently and are positioned differently compared to insteads, but they use the same concept of providing a nonabsorbent cup as an alternative to tampons or pads.

for more info and links to various manufacturers, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cup

Yeah, I checked out a few

Yeah, I checked out a few before trying this one, but it was inexpensive and came recommended from a few people, so I thought I'd try the SoftCups first. I liked that it didn't sit as low too. I'll probably try a few kinds eventually.. thanks for the link!

makes sense

the cost was the reason i tried insteads first as well, but they seemed to exacerbate my cramping, so i stopped using them. one of these days i'll make the initial investment to get a reuseable menstrual cup, but i've been hesitant since i'm not sure if i'd like it any more than the insteads. i love the concept, though.

More power to you guys...

... but I'm sticking with my tampons. I'm sure my bad environmental karma will come back to bite me in the ass someday, I just don't think I could deal with a reusable menstrual blood and mucus catcher thingy... *shudders*

And now we know why I never wanted to go to med school :P

:P A girlfriend of mine

:P A girlfriend of mine used an alternative device as well, seems to work fine, it's just a personal adjustment really.

is it just a cup that stays

is it just a cup that stays put and catches it all? Is it quite undignified trying to get the thing in? seems like an odd device to me... but then i'm a man and I don't know how these things work :)

Yep. These particular ones

Yep. These particular ones you wear for up to 12 hours.

Hehe it's not as bad as you might think. The first time was a little awkward, but then you go "oh, okay, I get it", and it's really no more awkward than a tampon from then out.

i dunno how far it goes...

i dunno how far it goes... is it like up to knuckle depth or something?
