Sooooo... which one of us gets to change the emergency thawing turkey water every half an hour? The one who suggested going to the store late, or the one who should have known better but went along with it anyway? :P
PS. It's strange having Thanksgiving so close to Christmas.
As a former food safety professional, I'm just very thankful to hear that you're going to do it right. You're in such a happy place right now the last thing you need is a bout of Salmonella poisoning to screw it all up. Yeah, moving Thanksgiving's gonna be weird, but then so would celebrating the 4th of July, eh? Of course, now Chris will get a whole new set of Holidays too. I'm sure he can't wait until Boxing Day. :)
I won't tell you about the time I forgot to wash my hands then ;) But it's safely thawed, chilled, and brining happily!
At least Canada Day is only four days before the 4th of July though...

...but running cool water thaws frozen turkey (or other meat) faster than still water.
I thought about rigging up some kind of siphon, but figured it was easier to just get up and change the water a few times :)
