Seeking music software...

Hi all,

I am looking for a free downloadable piece of music software that will allow me to take an existing music file, speed up some parts, and slow down some others. Bonus points if I can make part of it sound like a record skipping. I know nothing about music editing/remixing so I have no idea even where to look.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a mac or pc

I know a few apps for the mac that are really nice and free. They're a couple I know for the pc, but most is shareware or paid software.

Mac apps

Garage band that comes with macs is a great app to make music. Plus you can download free of charge Djay, which is a mixing program for macs. http://www.algoriddim.net/index.html.

It's like really having two turntables.

Remixing

I think they wanted to remixing, which Audacity won't do. It a great audio program for editing, but not mixing tracks.

Perhaps, but it will do

Perhaps, but it will do exactly what he's talking about. Also, Check out the Beta of Adobe Soundbooth which is a slimmed down version of Audition 2.0. Bonus is that it works for both Windows and Mac. I will warn you though that this IS a very early beta, it will have problems (and the installer is a bit quirky) but it might just be useful anyway.

And if you really want to get into Audio editing and mixing, Adobe Audition is the best out there for Windows (sadly it costs a pretty penny though).
