Trillian

Just reformatted my computer as it had started to encounter fiendishly annoying registry problems.

Decided to install trillian to prevent me from installing 50 different chat programs.

Remembered why I never installed trillian.

I cannot add new contacts. It asks me to define a source directory from which it should search for contacts, and the only option in the pull down menu is "There are no connections online"

Anyone able to help?

I use GAIM

I've used Trillian before, but it was a very unstable client, so I switched to Gaim. Gain is a multichat program as well and I like it better than trillan, because it's free, stable and opensource.

GAIM Rocks

I like it a lot better than I do Trillian, It seems to be less of a memory hog than trillian is.

To each their own, but I have to put in my vote to defend Trillian (with the Microscopic skin and stripped of all containers, emoticons, extraneous windows, and blinky things, and with trackball-mapped macro keys).

trying out GAIM now... does seem nicely back to basics... but it keeps adding duplicate MSN contacts. So I get all these popup boxes when I start it up!

PRO or Free

are you using Trillian pro or free? I've heard that trillian pro is a lot better than the free verison. I kept geting a lot of errors, etc. with it so that's when I decided to the switch.

Adding a contact... Adding a

Adding a contact...

Adding a contact is rather easy in Trillian. Right click on a list name (e.g., "My Contacts") in the contact list. Select "Add a contact". Fairly self-explanatory from there.

I've never run into the situation you're describing, and I've installed Trillian on several different boxes.
