Just as the title says. Of all the things I could have left behind, I forgot my birth control pills :P Still not sure how I managed that, as I apparently had two packs left since the pharmacy in Toronto wouldn't let me pick up any more, and I KNOW I had a few with me at some point... so they're either back in WI or in my sister's basement somewhere.
Aaaanyway, so since Canada "isn't in the U.S." (as one pharmacist oh so helpfully pointed out to me), they wouldn't accept a faxed or phoned-in prescription from my doctor. So off to Planned Parenthood in Oakland. I managed to get a next-morning appointment, and went in today to fill out a bazillion forms. They have a program called HOPE, which allows you to get birth control without a pelvic exam, which, since I've already been on the pill and just had my exam a couple of months ago, was very convenient.
They were very helpful and friendly. Thirteen packs of (generic) Alesse, quick and easy. I was doubly impressed when the nurse started explaining what Plan B was, and noted that they include a single dose of it with every program of birth control pills that they hand out. Brilliant.
I had marked down my income level (essentially zilch -- I'm living off savings right now) and lack of U.S. insurance, so the entire thing was at no cost. However, I left a $40 donation, which is about what a year of Alesse costs me from my doctor in Toronto.
So yay for Planned Parenthood. My opinion of the U.S. medical system has been somewhat redeemed :)

plan b.. hmm
