commandergood's drawings

Very nice indeed, I wish I could draw like that. I especially like the second one. That's just how I sit when I'm thinking about something (minus the pipe, of course), and the cross-hatching background effect works well. Small patches in opposing directions, it looks superb :-)

Do you mind if I offer a bit

Do you mind if I offer a bit of criticism?

First of all, let me say that I think the drawings are great. They bring out the character of Holmes quite well.

There are, however, a couple choices in technique in which I would suggest a change.

The cross-hatching in the background is at 90°. This bring it forward, causing it to be on the same plane with the weave of the hat. Changing the angle of the background crosshatch would push it further back. Or... use a thiner line or a "softer" line to imply distance.

Line weight is fairly consistent throughout the drawing. Using a heavier weight in the "forward" parts and a lighter weight in the "back" parts would add depth to the image (without actually changing the image itself).

Feel free to disregard everything I've said. :) I haven't picked up a drawing pen in several years. But I *was* an art teacher for a few years, and I do have a background in art, so I'm not just blowing smoke. :D

No matter what, the drawings are great. Keep it up.

I never mind constructive

I never mind constructive criticism. I am never completely satisfied with my work but I try not to go back and redue bits when I finish, I am always afraid I will mess something up. :)

heh heh... I know the feeling very well. :) And I've ruined more than my share of drawings by going back and "futzing" when I should have just left them alone.
