Need name for new site currency/points/karma

Hello all! Need some brainstorming...

I'm trying to come up with a name (and corresponding ASCII symbol) for the new site's currency or points or karma or whatever you want to call it.

Users will get these "points" for posting forum threads, comments, voting, etc. They will also be able to redeem them for further access to the site, downloads, etc. So it's somewhere between a point system and a currency. Plus it'll also be an indication, like the forum posts are right now, of a user's senority/contributions to the site.

Any ideas? I don't want anything too girly or nerdy or capitalistic.

..and it has to have an ASCII symbol... hmm...

(.)(.) - Boobie points...

(Ă®) - Hmm... perhaps not...

geekpoints... StephTheGeekpoints

ω - Small Omega

۞ - It's just a neat unicode symbol...

Hah, saggy boobs or a unicode sun.. cute.

Actually, jx100 just gave a great suggestion -- pixels! Could use a paragraph (¶) or thorn (Þ) symbol too...

Thoughts?

I've always been a fan of Âż which is used a lot in Spanish.

But I just found this one § - it's Swedish for "section" but conveniently it looks like both a dollar sign and the letter S :)

http://www2.lingsoft.fi/~reriksso/typography.html

So how about:

§tephPoints™

The word "points" is very much associated with loyalty programs these days so it will have instant recognition for new and existing members..

§toints

I like the §tephPoints idea and like the § symbol.

A suggestion might be to abbreviate it to §toints
mono-syllabic seems better, at least for us knuckledraggers

Hmmm,

I have 54 §toints in my account.
You have been awarded §54.

Does it sing ?

I personally prefer "tokens"... because points sounds a bit... dunno...

I like "stoints" a lot.

I'd go for Karma Points, but §tephPoints are better.

Heh heh, I LOVE the section symbol. I was thinking about using it but it's also used for Simoleons (the Sim currency) so I wasn't sure if it'd be too copy-ish.

I also figured using my name in the currency was a little cheesy :P But if you guys are all for it, I'm not opposed to it!

Stokens? Not sure if that sounds right...

Why not Spoints? §points? Sounds cuter than Stoints.

I was under the impression that § was the universally accepted symbol for currency.

Oh. No, wait, it's ¤.

One more vote for Stoints. Spoints is... too obvious.

I'm settled on spoints, or §points (sorry dev2r!). Stoints sounds too much like a medical term or something

Thanks everyone :)

Sounds more like a cheap micro-brew to me.

"Hey... Pick me up a couple-three cases of Stoints while yer at the store there, er no?"

Aww. I'm too late. I was going to suggest Geekgasms. Or maybe dorks. With the symbol being the paragraph break symbol.

I like Geekgasms.

EDIT:

Secondary reasoning beyond 'it just sounds better': If this site is headed towards a 'community' style, the emphasis should be on 'Geek' rather than 'Steph'. I know, I know, tar and feather time (peanut butter jelly time!), but 'Geekwhatever' is also far more descriptive than 'Swhatever'. 'S'? Uh.. K?

I'd stayed out of this cuz i didn't like any of them and I couldn't think of a better one. Even though steph has made her mind up I officially vote for 'dorks'.

I'm still open to convincing otherwise :)

But I'm still preferring spoints... yes it does have the Steph S, but I definitely agree that I don't want it as Steph-something, given the community focus. Dorks is a little vague I think..

Maybe it's a little too simplistic and I've had a bit too much Korean beer this evening, but what about "pixels" or "pixel points" being the unit of measurement, given the new design focus of the site? It also would work fairly well with the paragraph symbol, but the double "s" thing would also be okay (an $ has very little to do with the spelling of "dollar", now does it?)

Meh... 'points' is like a big, blunt club. A tad too obvious and inelegant. Pixels may be simple, but simple is good if it sounds topical.

more STG currency

with a little more time over lunch on a Sunday afternoon the following are submitted for your review:

karons – from the Latin terms for units of karma found only on the internet

karokens – a Spanish bastardization of karon

geektons – or in French, geektens

mentioned but not preferred

goints

karoints

garma

starma

stoints

stokens - a CA. term that is both a noun and an adj. – dude, that comment was “stoken”

spoints

there is also a negative unit called a "zot"
for purposeful trolling, maliciousness, and general troublemaking there could be a loss - hmmmm, wonder where that name came from ?

i like pixels or px or pix... very appropriate with the site design and not explicitly steph-ish.

Stixel does have a certain appeal, and it ties into the whole pixel art theme of the new site. It gets my vote, unless someone has something better...

Geexel is good too. So, I guess either stixel or geexel. Or maybe just plain geex.
