Credit card processing options

Transparency is important to me when it comes to billing (and other things), and I want everyone to know what I'm dealing with here.

My options for credit card processing for the site are very limited, particularly as a Canadian. The banks here are even more conservative when it comes to approving sites with any kind of adult content.

In case some of you don't know, Paypal is very out. Absolutely no adult content or links allowed. They don't even let me have an account at all.

Verotel and CCBill are a couple of options you all might have heard of. CCBill requires a US presence, which would be possible for me to swing, but they also have stricter requirements on things like BDSM-related content and documentation. An example: a site was recently turned down because they featured a vampire-themed movie, in which the victims didn't explicitly state consent, plus the use of fake blood. They also take about 15%, and require the $750 upfront Visa fee. So I'm not too happy with that option.

Verotel uses a "ticket" system (kinda like an AdultCheck pass or something) which really doesn't allow a lot of flexibility.

The option I'm leaning towards is MyVirtualCard.com. They're even Canadian :) 11.5% + $0.60/transaction + a $1.50 "service fee"/transaction (grr). They also have much higher fees for refunds, chargebacks, etc. So it's definitely going to cost me more to run the site than the 5.5% + $0.50 that I'm currently paying. For any of you who purchased a stream DVD, that was through MVC.

I'd like to offer an online cheque option as well, but no promises right now.

Shoot an email to the webmistress of http://www.bellavendetta.com (ridiculously NSFW). She had an insane amount of trouble finding a CC processor due to the content. Eventually she found a permissive company with whom she is happy. I have a membership there and it's really seamless. Worth a shot :?

She's using Hughes Billing. Only available in the U.S. Thanks though.

YNOT Payments is another option, but it's similar to Verotel with the "ewallet" system. I'd rather offer a seamless signup.

I have to ask: What's wrong with the current provider?

For reasons I'd rather not get into here, I've outgrown them and they're no longer an option.

credit card options

I don't own a credit card, just a number of debit cards, and they're limited in use (ie paypal.) What else is there? I don't mind paying a slightly higher rate?

I may sign up for YNOT Payments as a secondary processor for just this reason. It's a bit more of a hassle for those signing up (they use an automated phone call to give you a PIN), but they accept cheques and Euro debit cards.

Maybe check out Epoch (Paycom.net)
http://www.epochsystems.com/credit_card_processing.html

I have heard they charge $750 to setup Visa (but apparently this is a standard fee now charged by Visa themselves)

The bdsm content you have on your site wouldn't be an issue with ccbill, the only thing that comes to mind they might get after you for are some of the pictures in your photo albums outside the site. Even though there not adult related in anyway, any pictures of children on a site registered with us as adult would be a no-no. :?

Ack, that's a major problem too :( "Us" meaning you = CCBill?

Checking out Epoch, but I think they're US-only since the form doesn't allow you to enter another country :P

Most processors charge the $750, which isn't the end of the world... I'd rather pay that than this damn $1.50/transaction from MVC.

What about incorporating yourself and setting up a US bank account? That way you could use US CC processors.

You might end up reaping other benefits as well.

Sunny knows all about this btw...she explained it to me at one point but I forget :? Anyway she'd be a good person to ask about the Visa charges, in case you want a rundown.

Regarding the US stuff, it's just not quite that easy. First of all, I'd rather not have to go through the hassle/expense. And I don't know how long I'm going to be in the US anyway. Plus I'm going to be there on a work visa, which doesn't allow me to do that anyway.

I know about the Visa fee. No biggie if the processor requires it, but MVC doesn't.
