What does it mean when you come home from school and find out that a company you applied to for a job called with a question about your resume?

Don't they either want you for an interview or not? What kind of question could they possibly have about your resume that warrants a specific phone call, leaving a message with your boyfriend to boot?

Oh yeah, and btw, I just got my first post-grad job rejection today too. w00t!

If they weren't interested, they wouldn't be calling.

Trust me. Everyone says that they won't leave you hanging if they don't give you the job, but that is a rarity. Any contact is good. Good luck!

Could be a question about your past experience or education (IE "Does your degree give you any expertese in X" or "When you worked for frank enterprises, did you ever use program Y?"), in any case, its definately a good sign.

Good luck!

The guy in HR thought you were hot, scammed your phone number off your resume' and called to ask you out, but when your boyfriend answered, he did some fast thinking and said he had a question about your resume'.

:D

They probably want you for the job, or you are in a list of finalists for the position. Good Luck.

Sneaky Blaze!

I woudl guess they want some more information on eductation/experience. Sounds like a good thing to me though. Always nice to get the opportunity to stick your foot in a little more (hopefully the door and not your mouth!)

Where was the rejection letter from? What kind of job are you looking for?

First off, Blaze you're a genius.

Second, I'm looking for a materials science/metallurgy engineering job... somewhere close to Toronto would be best. I've already been turned down by Kinectrics in Etobicoke so far.

Thirdly, Atomic Energy (the company that recently called) wants me for an interview, but that means flying out to Ottawa and driving for 2.5 hours to the middle of bumfuck nowhere, interviewing and coming all the way back again in a one day period... maybe 2 if I have to. It was a job I applied to through U of T, so why can't they just send somebody out to interview us? It's easier for them to miss work than me to miss school.

*Lame*

Maybe there were some fishier elements of the resume. You know, stuff like.....

-Invented Copper at age 7

-Head, Ummm, bosss lady at....... those nuklear dudes?

-Presidential Science Advisor to Lyndon Johnson

-Taught Ron Jeremy how to love again

-Prime Minister of Canada for two days while on a bender

-Albert Einstein's cabana girl

-Travelled though time in phonebook with best friend. Taught the future to rock again

If they want you to fly out on your own money, eh, I don't know what to say.

If they want you to fly out on THEIR money, it's most likely a "Hey, we want to meet this person, look her over in person, make sure she's not a highly tattooed, highly pierced, three-eyed mutant with a speech impediment that causes her to spit everywhere she says words that begin with 'th'." i.e. They want you, but they want to make sure you're 'real' first.

Mind if I use a few of those Fly? They'd really juice mine up a bit.

They should either:

1. Pay for you to fly out there
2. Do a phone web conference first. I mean, they should at least consider you a very strong possibility before they send you out there.

Yeah, they're paying for the flight, and the hotel room which they've already booked, and all the meals are comp, and they're getting me to and from the hotel in Pembroke with a bus... which probably means I'm not the only one they're looking at. I think there were only 4 engineering job openings, so they must be interviewing for all their other job ops as well at this time. They have this whole 2-day itinerary set up, which they just sent this morning.

The only problem is that since I can't rent a car (my age < 25) to get me to the hotel from Ottawa, either I pay for a very expensive, very long taxi ride, or my dad comes with me and drives. And in all honesty, I'd rather drive through the wilds of North-Eastern Ontario with my dad than some creepy taxi driver who could kill me and hide the body so well they'd never find it.

But, I'm probably worried about nothing. I think I'm just pissed that I have to miss 2 days of school, coming back to ~ 3 major tests on Friday.

It seems highly odd that they would pay for a flight to Ottawa but leave you no means to get from Ottawa to Pembroke. Maybe they forgot to fill you in on that part!

Marg, are you sure you can't get around the car rental dealie? In the states, you can't rent a car til you're 25. But, I interviewed at M$ when I was 19, and since they booked the car, they were able to skirt the law.

Then again...it's Microsoft.

Sure you can. You just can't rent an SUV/minivan if you're under 25. Maybe it's a state-by-state law.

Marg, they would have just assumed you were taking a cab from Ottawa to Pembroke. They'd surely compensate you if you mention this fact beforehand.

Yeah, I think they will... I mean, on top of the plane ticket, it's really a drop in the bucket for a car rental or cab.

So, I'm coming around to the idea of living in the middle of nowhere... but I'm still not sure. Then again, right now I have to concentrate on getting the job first. But I always find it's good if you've reconciled yourself to the worst case beforehand, and figured out ways to not totally hate it and want to die.

I just think having adjusted to and come to love Toronto's fast pace, 24-hour grocery stores, goth clubs, friends etc that it's terribly isolated out there, in a small town. I'm just wondering if I'll feel comfortable or if I'll have a total mental collapse.

Then again, one foot at a time, gotta get the job first. My mind goes in circles
