I am looking forward to watching it. I do not know how much I will like it. I hope they still have some of the charm of the original.

Battlestar Galactica!

Tonight Battlestar Galactica is on Sci-Fi Channel tonight. I couldn't be happier. Anybody obsessed with the Original? Anybody heard about the boycotts and so forth? There are a bunch of pretty good reviews, anyway

I grew up watching the series in 70s and then seeing the Galactica 1980 (with Wolfman Jack) and actually am quite happy to scooch aside and offer some room to this new show, which treats the Battlestar Galactica story like Jazz all the old themes and melodies are there and intact but this is a wild and often dark interpretation. The original might have had rose-colored glasses, but this one is wearing dark wrap-around sunglasses!

Although I have been reading a lot about the new Battlestar Galactica and some of the early reviews say that the show is way too sexy, but what I saw was a plot and character-driven space opera that’s a little edgy and pretty cool. The premise is that the Galactica (and her crew) is a reluctant hero. She was ready to be decommissioned and be turned into a museum, as were many of her commanders, and then she is pressed forth to become heroic. I think the story led the sexuality a lot more then vice-versa.

Upon seeing the first half of the new Battlestar Galactica series, I think Edward James Olmos’ character, Commander Adama, is going to present some intense issues between the old and new worlds of the Galactica legacy. The generational gaps and tensions are already starting to manifest themselves through him as a veteran stalwart Battlestar leader.

Who would have known that Number Six could act and who knew that I would actually prefer Starbuck as a girl? This Battlestar Galactica is from an alternate universe and should be allowed to live on its own merit. In fact, I think if we play our cards right and support the show (both nights) and then maybe get our friends to see the re-showings, we might be able to convince Sci Fi to make this a proper series. Too many reality shows! We need more storytelling like I saw last night!

I like what they have done with it. Starbuck is still a problem for me, he/she should be more of the wheeler dealer type.
